Noel Whelan believes there is no doubt that Serge Aurier will be sold by Tottenham this summer.
The former Premier League striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, claims that the Ivory Coast international has been played out of necessity by Jose Mourinho since the manager’s arrival.
As reported by the Mirror, Spurs are ready to offload the 27-year-old after three years in north London as they look to shake things up in defence this summer.
He played a total of 42 times across all competitions last season and missed just one Premier League game between September and the end of the campaign.
However, Whelan suggests that Aurier is not the type of player Mourinho wants in his side and that the Spurs boss is desperate to replace him.
Whelan told Football Insider:“I think it’s clear to see his time at Tottenham’s done, it’s no secret that Mourinho wants him out the club and he wants someone else to come in and replace him.
“He’s not the Mourinho sort of player he wants. He’s been playing because he’s not got too many other options quite frankly. I think we’ll see him out the door.”
Aurier, who signed from PSG back in 2017, has a total of 83 appearances under his belt for the Lilywhites to date.
He has had little competition for a spot at right-back over the last 12 months after Kieran Trippier was sold last summer and Kyle Walker-Peters was shipped on loan to Southampton in January.
In other Tottenham news, it can be REVEALED the club have agreed a deal totalling £45million.
