Leeds United star Joel Piroe believes that the image of “kick and rush” football is no longer correct for the Championship and explained what types of players he comes up against in England.
Piroe is not new to the Championship scene and shone for Swansea City in the division prior to signing for Leeds.
He has crossed the 100-game mark in the competition and knows the level well, insisting that the second-tier of English football is not simply kick and rush, even though it is physical.
According to Piroe, teams prefer positional football and are tactically strong, while their squads are made stronger with the presence of youth and Premier League experience.
“The Championship is a strong competition. The image of kick and rush is no longer correct”, Piroe told ESPN.nl.
“Of course, it is still a physical competition, but most teams also play good positional play and are tactically strong.
“It is a mix of former Premier League players who are winding down in our competition and young talents who want to showcase themselves.”
Leeds themselves have a number of players in their squad who have played in the Premier League and have stayed on despite their relegation from the top tier at the end of last season.
They are fighting to get back to the top level yet again, but need to reel in either Leicester City or Ipswich Town to grab an automatic promotion spot.
