Austria head coach Irene Fuhrmann has issued a reminder that qualification for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023 is in her side’s own hands.

Fuhrmann’s side are currently two points adrift of group leaders England ahead of their meeting at The Stadium of Light tomorrow.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Austrian boss Fuhrmann said that while her side dropped their first points in qualifying against Northern Ireland last month, it does not change their focus for this game. She also issued a reminder that qualification is very much still in Austria’s own hands.

“We prepare for the game in the same way that we would have if we had won the game against Northern Ireland,” Fuhrmann told the media.

“We have everything in our own hands right now to qualify for the World Cup.”

Fuhrmann maintained a similar stance when asked about the challenging weather forecast for the game against England. The two sides could contest their fixture in sleet and gales in Sunderland but the Austria boss said that her side mustn’t worry about the conditions because they are out of their control.

She said “The circumstances cannot be controlled by us so we take them as they are. They are the same for both teams and we will take the chance tomorrow to try and give England a really tough time.”

The FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023 qualifier between England and Austria at The Stadium of Light kicks-off at 12.30pm on Saturday afternoon. Tickets for the match can be purchased by clicking here.
