The wait is almost over, Chivahermanos. Guadalajara is about to kick off its 2025 Apertura campaign, and all of us who love this team are excited after the great preseason it has had. Without a doubt, this Saturday's match at the Nou Camp Stadium will be packed with Rojiblancos fans, and that brings back great memories.
If we put all the pieces together, it's practically impossible not to think about the last time Chivas debuted in a Liga MX tournament against León, so why not review what happened on July 3, 2023?
Veljko Paunovic's second semester at the helm of the Rebaño Sagrado was kicking off, with the hope of replicating in the 2023 Apertura what had been achieved the previous semester with the team's great performance. As always, La Fiera's home was packed with Chivahermanos, who enjoyed a very good game by the Rojiblancos.
With 20 minutes on the clock, Guadalajara's first goal was scored when Ricardo Marín fought for a ball in the air inside the area, set up 'Pollo' Briseño, and he sent it into the net with his right foot from the penalty spot. The Esmeraldas equalized five minutes later with a header in the area, but this did not dampen the spirits of the Rebaño, who continued to look for opportunities up front.
With the score tied at 1-1, the Jalisco team's objective was clear: to return to Guadalajara with three points, and Pauno's changes in the second half supported this goal. As the clock ticked down, he made four offensive changes, including the debuts of Yael Padilla and Jesús Brígido, and time proved him right.
It was the 80th minute when 'Pocho' Guzmán took the ball in midfield and drove towards the goal, taking advantage of the one-on-one situation that arose at the edge of the León area. At just the right moment, he passed to the right for Yael, who, inside the area, fired a low shot past Rodolfo Cota, which slipped into the Esmeralda net. Thus, he not only scored his first goal in the top flight, but also secured the Rojiblanco victory by 1-2, in a memorable match for the Chiva Nation.
This Saturday, Chivas has the opportunity to give another unforgettable night at the Nou Camp Stadium, which will mark its first step in a new semester of the Liga MX.
