Chelsea are still in the market for a midfielder and the final hours are going to be “crazy” according to Fabrizio Romano.

The January window is into the final 48 hours with Monday’s deadline looming, and the Blues have a lot of work to do in a short space of time.

Chelsea are still looking to move a number of players on despite selling Cesare Casadei, and they are working to try and bring in at least one new signing.

Chelsea still looking for a new midfielder

Chelsea would like to bring an attacker in, but with the clock ticking that is looking less and less likely even though they’ve been linked with the likes of Mathys Tel and Alejandro Garnacho.

Another area where the Blues are short is in midfield due to Romeo Lavia’s constant injury issues, and a lot of strain is currently being put on Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.

Chelsea have both Lesley Ugochukwu and Andrey Santos out on loan at Southampton and Strasbourg respectively, but they are reluctant to recall either of the duo.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is another option, but he’s clearly not trusted by Enzo Maresca, meaning the Blues are a Caicedo or Fernandez injury away from having a big problem.

Chelsea did explore a loan move for Douglas Luiz, but were put off by the demands of Juventus, and have yet to be linked with any other names.

Romano has provided another update and stated the Blues are still looking for a midfielder and are trying to be “active” in the final hours of the window.

“Chelsea are still in the market for a midfielder, still in the market for something else, exploring opportunities. Two days to go. It’s going to be crazy. Chelsea is trying to be active.,” he said on is YouTube channel.

The clock is really ticking so the club need to move fast, and any midfielder that does come in is likely to be a surprise name, but the Blues can’t afford to go into the rest of the season with just Fernandez and Caicedo.
