It’s seven years to the day since Lionel Messi put in one of his greatest ever Barcelona performances.

Admittedly, it’s a high bar, but this complete mauling of Bayer Leverkusen has to be right up there.

Barcelona took on the German side in the last 16 of the Champions League and completely tore them to shreds, ending up with a 7-1 victory.

And on the night, Messi came away with five brilliant goals.

It was the first, and so far only, time that a player had done that in the competition.

Barcelona would go on to reach the semi-finals that year where they lost to eventual winners Chelsea.
