‘It’s disappointing’ – Didier Deschamps reacts to Kylian Mbappé & Randal Kolo Muani boos | OneFootball

“If I’m not booed, I’d be pleasantly surprised,” Kylian Mbappé (25) told Téléfoot on Sunday. Those fears became a reality when France faced Chile at the Vélodrome on Tuesday night, and Didier Deschamps was not impressed.

With just days before Sunday’s Le Classique at the Vélodrome, it had been expected that France’s Paris Saint-Germain contingent would be booed by the crowd, given the club’s rivalry with Olympique de Marseille. Mbappé and Randal Kolo Muani were targetted by boos from the Marseille crowd when they touched the ball during the 3-2 victory over Chile, in what was Les Bleus’ final match before Euro 2024.

Like Mbappé, Deschamps said that he wasn’t surprised by the crowd’s hostile reception for Mbappé and Kolo Muani, but that didn’t mean that he wasn’t disappointed.

“I’m not surprised, unfortunately. Everyone knows about the rivalry with PSG and the match that is coming up on Sunday. It shouldn’t happen. It’s the France national team. [Mbappé] is the captain. But it wasn’t the whole stadium either, and it’s not specific to Marseille,” began Deschamps in his post-match press conference.

“Alright, I’ll be kind: it’s disappointing, to say the least,” continued Deschamps, who managed OM prior to managing Les Bleus. The tension, and the boos, will certainly be cranked up a notch – or two – when Les Parisiens come to town on Sunday.
