Speaking ahead of a crucial Champions League clash against PSG at the Parc des Princes, Newcastle United goalkeeper Nick Pope reflected on the occasion of facing the French Champions away from home, and how it stacks up as a memorable moment between the sticks for The Magpies. The following was transcribed at a press conference attended by Get French Football News editor George Boxall.

It’s bigger than Morecambe away with York City I suppose,” the England goalkeeper said with a cheeky grin. “Obviously last year we would have given anything to be in this position. When I signed here 18 months ago I didn’t think we’d be in the Champions League this early, so we’re really pleased to be where we are now.”

The Premier League side must get a result at the Parc des Princes if they are to continue their adventure in the Champions League this season. Yet Pope seemed calm about the huge task facing him and his side against PSG, adding “A win would be nice, it keeps it in our hands as we go into the Milan game. I think we’re a top team, and we have to have the belief and attitude that we can go and win the game.”

Shortly after, the Newcastle side went out to training on the Parc des Princes pitch as earlier’s rain subsided. This time tomorrow they’ll be arriving at the Parc for the real deal, ready to face Mbappé, Dembélé and co. on the biggest of stages.
