Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has admitted that the team’s vulnerability to conceding a high number of shots manifested itself again vs. Bournemouth and played a part in hindering the team from snatching all three points.

United came from behind twice to play out a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth. The club’s goals were scored by Bruno Fernandes in either half.

On this occasion at the Vitality Stadium, the Red Devils conceded 20 shots and Andre Onana found himself very busy in yet another game.

Erik ten Hag’s men have now conceded 20+ shots in nine of their last 10 Premier League games.

Even more grim, United have now faced more shots at this stage of the season than they ever have in their rich and illustrious history.

A few weeks ago, Ten Hag was asked about this issue but quickly dismissed it as he insisted that it’s not a worry provided his stars score goals and put ties to bed – a worrying response that drew concerned reactions from within the fanbase.

Fernandes previously disagreed with Ten Hag that the number of shots conceded is not a big issue and now his fellow countryman Dalot has done the same.

Dalot spoke to reporters after the game and gave his verdict on the match, including why the 20-time English champions conceded so many shots.

He said, “I think there were ups and downs. Down two times but we had the right attitude to go back and fight for the game. We could’ve controlled much more, had more on the ball in the final third and been more patient. We conceded some counter attacks that created big chances for them and we could’ve controlled more.”

The right-back said about individual errors, “It’s been happening in the last couple of games, we don’t look to who has done it but we know it can happen at this level because they are clinical enough to score if we make mistakes. it’s something we have to look for and try not to do.”

“It’s part of life to make mistakes. It’s about reacting well the next game and the next few minutes to try to do better. That’s what we have to overcome. Take responsibility but try not to do for the next games and that’s the challenge.”

When asked about the issue of easily conceding shots to rival outfits, Dalot added, “It’s been one of our concerns, maybe try to be more compact as a team. Don’t try to make the gap between defenders and midfield too big. Sometimes it is and they counter the counter. It’s something we have to improve because it’s been nowhere near good enough for the level of this club.”

“We’ve been showing belief through the season, coming back from down moments. Too many this season. We have to control more and have the game under control, we lose it too many times.”

The United star explained that the main aim for the upcoming games is to be more calm, composed and to demonstrate a degree of control over proceedings.
