‘It’s Absolutely Wow’ – Klopp a happy man as Liverpool brush Arsenal aside 3-1 at Anfield | OneFootball

Jurgen Klopp was beaming after his dominant Liverpool side claimed an impressive 3-1 victory over Arsenal on Monday evening at Anfield.

The Reds had gone into the match having won both of their league matches so far this season and were in complete control of the opening proceedings, Sadio Mane striking straight at the keeper, before Trent Alexander-Arnold saw a deflected effort ricochet off the crossbar – much to the relief of the Arsenal defence.

With the Gunners backline under constant bombardment, a rare breakaway saw Alexandre Lacazette pounce on an Andy Robertson error to give the visitors an undeserved lead. That shock lead lasted just three minutes, however, as Roberto Firmino played in Mohamed Salah who’s subsequent effort on goal was parried straight to the feet of the gleeful Sadio Mane.

Jurgen Klopp’s men then went one better, as Scotland captain Robertson redeemed his earlier error by arriving at the backpost unmarked, before dinking the ball over the onrushing Bernd Leno. The second-half saw similar home dominance, although Lacazette did have a glorious opportunity to grab his second, yet saw his effort denied by the formidable figure of Alisson.

With the game then reaching its climax, Diogo Jota – making his league debut for the club – sealed the win with a neat finish into the far corner following a poor clearing header from David Luiz. That victory continues Liverpool’s perfect start to the season and manager Klopp was overjoyed, the former Borussia Dortmund boss feeling the win was ‘completely deserved’ as his side ‘killed’ their opponents game plan.

“We had so many big moments and I don’t dream we finish off each situation, we were 1-0 down but we won it and it was completely deserved,” Klopp told Sky Sports.

”Could we score more goals? Yes. Could they score? Yes. We played constantly a high line.

“How can you defend Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with not having a high line? We punished them from time to time, did not punish them but killed a little of their match plan. They stuck to it but we did it again and again.

“We want to win the ball as high as we can that is why I was not frustrated or disappointed. The games can go either way and if they score goals it looked slightly different. It is about how you play, how you create and early in the season, with this performance, it is absolutely wow.”

Liverpool face the Gunners again in the Carabao Cup on Thursday, before a Premier League clash with Aston Villa on Sunday.
