Chelsea head coach Sonia Bompastor is expecting another tough game when her side travel to Crawley to face Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.

The Blues were pushed hard by The Seagulls when they met at Kingsmeadow back in December. Chelsea ran out 4-2 winners but their opponents remained in the game until second half injury time.

When speaking ahead of the latest meeting, Chelsea boss Bompastor said that she expects another tough assignment.

“It’s a tough game for us,” Bompastor said. “Every team wants to beat Chelsea. They’ve had two weeks to prepare for the game.

“I think if you reflect on the game we played against them, it was a difficult game for us. They have this philosophy to play and put trouble to the opposition. They have a lot of quality in their squad with some individuals and collectively, so we are expecting a tough game.”

An international break brings challenges in terms of Chelsea’s preparation for the game but Bompastor says that her side are used to the quick turnaround.

She said “We still have three players who are landing today, coming from the US. The big day for assessment is today for us.

“I think I will have a clear idea of my squad for Sunday maybe later today. It’s a quick turnaround, only one day to prepare for the game but we have the experience.”

Chelsea came from behind to eventually see-off Everton 2-1 in their latest Barclays Women’s Super League fixture and Bompastor is pleased with the mental aspect of her side’s game.

She said “I’m really happy with the mental side of our performance. We have a really competitive team. I think the mental side is really important and in every game, we just show how much we trust our quality.

“We are confident and we fight until the end of the game. I think that’s something really positive.”

Chelsea’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Brighton & Hove Albion kicks-off at 3pm on Sunday afternoon.
