Dimitar Berbatov accuses Manchester United of buying Donny van de Beek just to please fans

According to Betfair (h/t Manchester Evening News), former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov believes that Donny van de Beek hasn’t been given a proper chance to prove himself for the Red Devils.The Dutchman got his first start of the season in a shock loss against Young Boys in the first match of their Champions League campaign.

The 24-year-old had to be substituted at half-time for Raphael Varane to tactically adapt to going down to 10 men in the first half. This was just his 16th start for Man Utd in all competitions until now.In conversation with Betfair (h/t Manchester Evening News), Berbatov spoke about his opinion on the young midfielder’s time with the Red Devils.

Ever since van de Beek joined the club he has managed only 38 appearances with Manchester United. He has a solitary goal to his name with the Old Trafford outfit during that time and it is evident that he isn’t the first name in Solskjaer’s mind when he picks his starting XI.
