“It’s a joy” – Brazil legend speaks out on Thiago Silva’s Chelsea spell

When Chelsea signed Thiago Silva on a free transfer last summer, I don’t think anyone expected him to have the world class impact he is having right now.

We all knew what a class player he is when we signed him, and we all thought he would do well and was a good signing. But for him to have made such a massive difference and to be one of the best players in our starting Xl week in, week out, I think has gone beyond many of our expectations.

Silva has been colossal for Chelsea, nothing short of world class, and he continues to defy his age and play some of the best football of his life as he nears the age of 37.

But Brazil legend Rivaldo relates Silva’s form into his late 30s to that of another Brazilian legend, Dani Alves, who also did the same.

Rivaldo says it is a ‘joy’ to watch Silva doing so well for Chelsea, as reported by Football London.

“It’s a joy to see Thiago Silva playing so well for Chelsea in the best league in the world.

“Players can extend their careers at the highest level longer than in the past. Dani Alves is another who’s played well into his late-30s in recent years.

“With the quality and class Silva is showing in a tough competition, it wouldn’t surprise me to see him playing for Brazil at the Qatar World Cup in 2022,” the former Barcelona man said.

“His experience would be a bonus for the team. He is used to facing some of the best strikers in the world regularly which could be crucial for Brazil in decisive moments of the World Cup next year.

“I think Brazil manager Tite’s decision will also depend on potential new centre-backs that might emerge this season, but it should be a great comfort for the Brazilian manager to see Silva in such a great form and probably ready to compete at the highest-level next year.”
