The La Liga race has opened up quite a bit in the last weeks as FC Barcelona have been unable to take advantage of the significant lead they generated at the top of the league table at the start of the season.

The Catalans have been unable to take the full three points from several matches in the last two months, and they once again dropped points in their last game against Leganes at the Montjuic last night. With this loss, the Blaugranes are tied with Atletico Madrid and only 1 point ahead of Real Madrid, with these two teams having a game in hand.

This loss would have been particularly painful for Alejandro Balde, as it was his 100th game with the first team, and he would have liked to mark this occasion with a win.

Although things did not really pan out as he would have wanted them to, SPORT reports that he still talked to the media after the game, and rued the precious points lost:

“We should have left with three points… the only option now is to learn from our mistakes and work to improve.”

Overall, the fullback showed satisfaction with his team’s efforts, and was unhappy for not getting a goal to show for these efforts:

“Conceding a goal so quickly is always tough, it’s a hard blow. But I think we reacted well, the only thing we lacked was converting our chances. We haven’t had good results in La Liga this month, but we need to focus on ourselves, not look at others, and work on our own game.”

Having already consumed their lead at the top of the table, Barcelona do not have a lot of margin for error going forward. Hopefully, they will be able to get back in form and get the required results in La Liga to ensure they can get their hands on the biggest trophy in Spain once again this season.
