Exactly two decades ago today, Manchester United completed their glorious 1999 treble in the most dramatic fashion imaginable.

Four days after beating Newcastle in the FA Cup final, United met Bayern Munich in the Champions League final at Barcelona’s Camp Nou stadium.

And it was Bayern who drew first blood when Mario Basler found the bottom corner of Peter Schmeichel’s net with just six minutes on the clock.

It was the Bundesliga club who also looked most likely to add to the scoreline but that was how it stayed until, with 91 minutes on the clock, Teddy Sheringham popped up to equalise for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.

And with extra-time looming large, future United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer popped up in the 93rd to complete a scarcely believable comeback that will never be forgotten.

On Sunday, United’s ’99 team will take on their Bayern counterparts in a re-enactment of the game at Old Trafford with all funds raised going towards Manchester United Foundation’s work with young people across Greater Manchester.
