Thursday 17 October 2019 marks exactly a decade since the most controversial goal in Premier League history.

Sunderland took on Liverpool at the Stadium of Light and it’s a match which will forever be remembered for an innocuous Darren Bent shot deflecting off a beach ball and past Reds goalkeeper Pepe Reina on its way into the net.

It proved to be the game’s only goal and to add insult to injury, the ball had actually been thrown onto the pitch by a Liverpool fan seated behind the goal.

The thrower – 16-year-old Callum Campbell – later revealed that he received death threats following the incident, while referee Mike Jones was demoted to the Championship the following weekend for failing to disallow the goal.

And former Reds goalkeeper Reina still isn’t over it …
