On Saturday evening, Nigeria will face Cameroon in the knockout stages of the Africa Cup of Nations to see who will progress to the quarter-finals.
It was already a high-stakes fixture between these two giants of the continent, but Nigeria’s Moses Simon (28) has added a personal element to the match.
The game will pit Simon against his FC Nantes teammate Jean-Charles Castelletto (29), and the Nigerian winger could not help but trash-talk his soon-to-be international opponent.
In a press conference on Friday, Simon added a touch more spice to the encounter between the bordering countries and fierce footballing rivals, by stating that: “I spoke with Jean-Charles about the match. One of us will return to Nantes. But tomorrow, it’ll be him returning.”
It was a comment that will certainly make the highly anticipated game an even more entertaining affair, as the two teams meet for their eighth encounter at the AFCON, as they look to rekindle a derby that began when Cameroon won their first-ever trophy by beating Nigeria in the final in 1984.
