Former Italy bomber Luca Toni discussed the Serie A title scene ahead of the upcoming campaign, identifying Juventus and Napoli as Inter Milan’s main challengers.

The Nerazzurri marched towards the Scudetto crown almost uncontested last term.

The Bianconeri kept pace with Simone Inzaghi’s men during the first half of the campaign. But a mid-season collapse ended their title hopes rather prematurely.

Hence, Inter were able to reach the finish line with five rounds to spare after beating AC Milan on Matchday 33 in what was a historic edition of the Derby Della Madonnina.

Nevertheless, Inter’s rivals have been recruiting some reinforcement this summer in order to close the gap on the reigning champions.

Juventus appointed Thiago Motta as the manager and have already bolstered their ranks with the likes of Michele Di Gregorio, Khephren Thuram and Douglas Luiz.

As for Napoli, they are desperate to return to winning ways after crumbling last term. The Partenopei couldn’t even secure a spot in the UEFA Conference League after finishing ninth on the grid.

Nevertheless, with the appointment of Antonio Conte as new head coach, Toni believes the Southerners might have their say this time around.

“Thiago Motta’s Juve will have to aim for the top positions,” said the 2006 World Cup winner in his interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews.

“But watch out for Napoli. Their squad is top-notch and Conte is a true winner.”

Luca Toni Believes Juventus & Napoli Could Challenge Inter Milan For Serie A Title

Moreover, Toni weighed in on the Serie A top goalscorer race.

Last season, Inter captain Lautaro Martinez led the charts from start to finish, leaving the competition in his dust.

Nevertheless, the former Fiorentina and Bayern Munich star feels that Juve’s Dusan Vlahovic could pose himself as a threat this time.

Moreover, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen would look to restore the crown he lost last season. However, this depends on whether or not he stays at the Stadio Maradona.

“Yes, definitely, Vlahovic can be the anti-Lautaro. If Dusan is in form and Juve does well, we will have a great challenge.

“But let’s also see if Osimhen will stay in Naples or leave. And watch out for Morata. Alvaro is a striker that I have always liked and he will be an added value for Milan.”

Serie A will kick off on August 17th. Inter will begin their campaign by taking on Alberto Gilardino’s Genoa away from home.
