Defender Francesco Acerbi will make his long-awaited return from injury in Inter Milan’s Serie A clash with Bologna next Wednesday.
This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInter1908. They report that the Italian international will not be available against Venezia this weekend, but is close to returning.
Acerbi has been on the sidelines for almost two months now.
The 36-year-old suffered a thigh strain during Inter’s Serie A match against Hellas Verona. That was their first match back from the November international break.
Initially, the hope was that Acerbi would recover from that injury quickly. He was aiming to only miss a couple of matches.
However, Acerbi’s recovery process has really dragged on. He missed all of December, and was also absent for the Supercoppa Italiana at the start of January.
However, reports Sky, Acerbi is close to being ready to finally get back to the pitch.
The former Lazio and Sassuolo defender will not be fit to face Venezia on Sunday.
However, Acerbi will be ready for Inter’s next match. They take on Bologna in Serie A in midweek.
Meanwhile, Sky reports, Hakan Calhanoglu will not be part of the squad that takes on Venezia either.
The Turkish international midfielder is basically fit despite suffering a thigh problem in the Supercoppa Italiana final against AC Milan.
However, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has decided not to risk Calhanoglu immediately against Venezia.
