Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi considers resting star midfielder Nicolo Barella in tonight’s clash against Sparta Prague.
According to Tuttosport via FCInterNews, Davide Frattesi could dislodge his more esteemed clubmate from the starting lineup.
Barella has been the beating heart of Inter’s midfield.
However, he has barely had a chance to rest this season, especially in recent weeks.
Indeed, injuries to Hakan Calhanoglu and Frattesi have forced Inzaghi to start the 27-year-old in seven consecutive matches.
Furthermore, a potential yellow card would rule Barella out of the upcoming game against Monaco.
Inzaghi’s risk aversion could lead to Barella’s drop tonight.
Indeed, Inter can’t afford to lose their talismanic midfielder ahead of Monaco’s visit to the San Siro in the league-phase finale.
Therefore, Frattesi could return to the starting XI amid transfer rumors linking him with a January switch to Roma.
Meanwhile, Marko Arnautovic has fallen out of favor with Inzaghi as he edges closer to leaving Inter.
He will surrender his place in attack to Marcus Thuram, who’ll partner up with Lautaro Martinez.
Mehdi Taremi will also start on the bench in the Champions League for the first time this season.
