Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi wants a return to Roma, but the Nerazzurri will insist on a high transfer fee.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the Italian international will not, however, push for the move.
Frattesi has found himself in a bit of an awkward situation since joining Inter in 2023.
The Nerazzurri paid a significant fee to sign the 25-year-old. All told, they spent more than €30 million to bring him in for Sassuolo.
But Frattesi has yet to establish a starting role for himself at Inter.
There have been plenty of appearances for the Italian. But most of these have come off the bench, as Inter coach Simone Inzaghi appears to mainly trust him as an impact substitute.
According to the Corriere, Frattesi has lost patience. He wants a move to a club where he’ll start regularly.
And the club that the 25-year-old has his heart set on is Roma.
The Giallorossi are the club that Frattesi supported growing up, and whose youth academy he came through.
Therefore, Frattesi had already hoped that Roma would have signed him back in the past.
However, the capital club never made the move to sign Frattesi, even with a 30% discount. Therefore, it was Inter who acted decisively to sign the Italian international.
But Frattesi hasn’t given up, reports the Corriere. He is still hoping for the move back to Roma, possibly as early as this month.
Among other things, Frattesi wants guaranteed playing time ahead of the 2026 World Cup to ensure that he can earn a starting spot for Italy.
For their part, however, Inter are not going to let Frattesi go for any cut-price fees.
The Nerazzurri would not want to take a loss on the 25-year-old. They’d expect a fee equal to what they paid Sassuolo.
One possible variable would be a swap deal involving out-of-favour Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini.
However, there are two issues here.
Firstly, Inter value Frattesi at a higher fee than Pellegrini. Therefore, they’d still want a significant fee as part of a swap deal involving the two midfielders.
Then, there is the issue of Pellegrini’s wages. The 28-year-old earns €4.5 million net per season, rising to €6 million net with add-ons.
So a move to Roma won’t be easy for Frattesi. And the Italian international will be patient, and not kick up a fuss or try to force Inter’s hand.
However, the 25-year-old has been perfectly clear on what his desire is, according to the Corriere.
