Wingback Federico Dimarco has been named as Inter Milan’s outstanding performer in their Serie A win over Empoli.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who note that the 26-year-old equalled his personal best for goals in a single Serie A season.
It didn’t take too long for Dimarco to get himself on the scoresheet yesterday evening.
The Italian international found the back of the net with a sweeping finish from an Alessandro Bastoni assist.
This came in just the fifth minute of play to put the wind in Inter’s sails.
It added to the sense that when Dimarco scores, he does so in style. The 26-year-old does not tend to score simple tap-ins or scrappy goals, but can certainly find the back of the net with impressive technique and composure.
And it was Dimarco’s fourth goal of the season in Serie A.
That means that the Inter wingback has now equalled last season’s total in the division. And he has eight more matches to go in which to exceed that personal best.
Dimarco did not just score, however.
Particularly in the first half of the match, the 26-year-old looked to be Inter’s most dangerous outlet.
Dimarco’s ability to drift around and pick up dangerous positions proved to be key.
The former Hellas Verona and Parma wingback did not just stay high and wide and directly target his opposite number Emmanuel Dyasi.
Rather, Dimarco would often look for spaces in the central areas, in front of the Empoli back three.
This made the Inter wingback very difficult for the Empoli players to pick up. And allowed him to be decisive very early on by opening the scoring for yet another Inter Serie A win.
