Inter Milan wingback Federico Dimarco feels that his team showed that “great victories are born from defeats” against Monaco.
The Italian international spoke to the Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, after the 2-1 friendly win.
Inter Milan beat Monaco 2-1 in a friendly match yesterday.
The result itself meant little. However, the performance was certainly a signal for how Inter will approach the upcoming season.
Even after going down to ten men following a Hakan Calhanoglu red card, Inter showed tenacity and organization against a more physically prepared Monaco team.
Inter have had to digest a lot of setbacks over the last few months.
The Nerazzurri missed on the Serie A title by just a point on the final day of last season. Then, they lost the Champions League final in humiliating fashion, falling to Paris Saint-Germain in a 5-0 defeat.
Simone Inzaghi left as coach shortly after that shocking capitulation. Cristian Chivu replaced him.
Early elimination from the Club World Cup followed. And then a summer of tension within the squad, particularly regarding transfer rumours surrounding Hakan Calhanoglu.

In spite of all that, there was no lack of spirit from Chivu’s team against Monaco yesterday.
After the match, Inter wingback Federico Dimarco commented that “Great victories are usually born from defeats.”
“That’s how it works in football,” the 27-year-old continued.
“There are moments of disappointment. And others of happiness.”
Dimarco insisted that “we’re working well in the training camp, and we’re enjoying ourselves.”
“That’s essential to be able to start again at our best,” he added.
“We saw a number of positive things against Monaco,” said Dimarco. “Going down to ten men didn’t cause us to drop our heads, and we came back.”
“We played well. Inter must be competitive in every competition.”
“Each season is different,” the Italian international added. “We know that well enough, but we’ve signed new players, all good, they’ll make us happy.”
