It is confirmed Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini will miss the Euros due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Atalanta confirmed on Sunday that their defender Scalvini had suffered a cruciate ligament injury during the last game of the 2023-24 Serie A campaign against Fiorentina.
An MRI scan undergone by the 20-year-old defender confirmed the rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament injury in his left knee.
In the coming hours, the defender will undergo a specialist visit to “define the next and appropriate process,” La Dea said in an official statement as quoted by Gazzetta.
Scalvini had been forced off the pitch in the final minutes of the last game of the season against Fiorentina in Bergamo.
The promising defender had scored a goal in the first half, but the match and the season ended in the worst possible way for him.
Scalvini had been included in Italy’s preliminary squad for Euro 2024 and was supposed to arrive in Coverciano on Monday morning to start preparation for the tournament alongside Gianluca Scamacca.
Italy already lost Inter‘s Francesco Acerbi to a groin injury so Juventus defender Federico Gatti has been put on alert.
Here’s the current situation regarding Italy’s defenders less than two weeks before the Azzurri’s debut at Euro 2024.
