Gianluca Vialli has sadly passed away at the age of 58 following a battle with illness.
The news was announced on Friday, confirming that the Italian football legend had died in London, where he was undergoing treatment for the pancreatic cancer diagnosis he received in 2017 but which returned last year after a period of remission.
Vialli was part of Roberto Mancini’s Italy staff, helping the side in their Euro 2020 triumph, but had to leave recently due to his deteriorating health.
During his successful playing days, he starred with hometown club Cremonese as well as Sampdoria and Juventus before finishing his career with Chelsea.
He went on to manage the Blues and Watford for short-lived spells before pursuing punditry.
Vialli won 59 caps for Italy and scored 16 goals and also won Serie A twice, as well as the Champions League, UEFA Cup and UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup.
