Nicolo Barella and Marcus Thuram have been criticized as not up to par in Inter Milan’s Serie A draw with Bologna yesterday.

Today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, give the Nerazzurri pair scores of just 5.5/10 in the player ratings for the match at the San Siro.

On paper, Inter certainly had the stronger team than Bologna in yesterday’s match.

Big name players with international experience dot the Nerazzurri’s squad.

But for that to really be a factor, Inter’s bigger names needed to give a demonstration of why they are so highly regarded.

And in truth, that wasn’t really the case.

The Nerazzurri did get one moment of magic from their captain Lautaro Martinez. The World Cup winner struck with a brilliant long-range effort.

But then the Argentine blundered badly to concede a penalty not long after.

Tuttosport therefore award Martinez a 5.5/10 score for his Jekyll-and-Hyde display.

But from other big names in the squad, it was more consistent mediocrity than going from one extreme to another.

Barella & Thuram Under Fire For Anonymous Displays For Inter Vs Bologna

Midfielder Barella had put in a very positive performance against Benfica in the Champions League.

That match saw the former Cagliari man live up to his reputation as a truly all-action central midfielder.

Against Bologna yesterday, however, Barella didn’t really have much of an impact on the match. The 26-year-old Italian international simply went through the motions.

And another player whose performance was a letdown after Benfica was striker Thuram.

The French international has already scored three goals and assisted a further four for Inter.

But Thuram provided little threat during his time on the pitch yesterday.

Perhaps tiredness was a factor for the former Borussia Monchengladbach striker. He had come off the pitch with a sore calf against Benfica.

But in any event, Thuram was unable to keep his run of good form going.
