Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni will be rested in tomorrow evening’s Champions League clash with Red Star Belgrade.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. They report that either Francesco Acerbi or Carlos Augusto will start on the left of Inter’s back three.
Defender Bastoni has started all but one of Inter’s matches so far this season.
The 25-year-old was not in the starting eleven for the Nerazzurri’s Serie A match away to Monza earlier this month.
In fact, Bastoni did not even play as a substitute in that match. He was available on the bench, but Inter coach Simone Inzaghi decided to give the Italian international a rest.
However, other than in that match, Bastoni has always been in the lineup.
Tomorrow evening, however, Bastoni should once again have the chance to catch his breath.
Nerazzurri coach Inzaghi will be looking to rotate his team for the Champions League fixture.
Inter only just played on Saturday. Bastoni started the Nerazzurri’s Serie A win away to Udinese.
And then next weekend, Inter have another match in the league before the international break. They host Torino.
Therefore, Bastoni will not have to potentially start three matches in the space of a week.
According to Tuttosport, there would be two possible options in place of the Italian international.
One would be for defender Francesco Acerbi to start on the left of the back three.
The former Lazio and Sassuolo veteran typically starts in the middle. But Stefan de Vrij will start there tomorrow, and Acerbi is capable of lining up on the left.
Alternatively, versatile Brazilian international Carlos Augusto could start there.
Summer signing Tomas Palacios is not a part of Inter’s Champions League squad.
