Inter Milan wingback Federico Dimarco and Carlos Augusto are reportedly competing for a starting berth in the Derby della Madonnina.
The Nerazzurri will play hosts to their crosstown rivals AC Milan at San Siro on Sunday night.
But while Simone Inzaghi has already sorted out his starting lineup, one doubt persists according to FcInter1908.
The source believes the returning Dimarco is eyeing a starting berth on the left, while Augusto is also eager to maintain his place on the left side.
The Italian remains the undisputed first starter in Simone Inzaghi’s pecking order. However, he sustained a muscle problem during last Sunday’s draw against Monza.
Therefore, he had to stay at home while the squad traveled to England to take on Manchester City in the opening round of the Champions League group stage.
Nevertheless, Dimarco has now returned to group training and is apparently certain of earning a call-up.
But it remains to be seen if Inzaghi will immediately thrust the 26-year-old back into the fray or seek prudence.
The source suggests Dimarco could be the slight favorite to start the Derby. However, Augusto’s convincing displays render him a reliable choice as well.
As the for the rest of the lineup. Benjamin Pavard will resume his duties at the back alongside Francesco Acerbi and Alessandro Bastoni.
In the middle of the park, Inzaghi will resort to his tried and tested trio of Nicolo Barella, Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Meanwhile, Denzel Dumfries should occupy the right flank.
Finally, Lautaro Martinez will regain his starting berth alongside Marcus Thuram, thus dropping Mehdi Taremi to the bench.
