Luciano Spalletti will soon announce his preliminary squad for the upcoming European Championship, so which forwards will represent the Azzurri in Germany?

The pressure is on Italy to perform well at the upcoming tournament in Germany, needing to prove themselves on the international stage once again after missing out on the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Spalletti’s side enter as defending champions, having won the last edition back in 2020.

Spalletti is set to confirm his 30-man preliminary Azzurri squad on Thursday, and whilst there are some certainties across the pitch, there are still a number of doubts that need to be resolved ahead of Euro 2024 in June.

Four forwards will almost certainly be called up by Spalletti and Italy for the European Championship – Atalanta’s Gianluca Scamacca, Genoa’s Mateo Retegui, Juventus’ Federico Chiesa and Napoli’s Giacomo Raspadori.

The injury suffered by Nicolo Zaniolo has freed up a spot in the squad, which’ll likely be given to either Napoli’s Matteo Politano or Bologna’s Riccardo Orsolini. Roma’s Stephan El Shaarawy is an outside choice, as are Lazio’s Mattia Zaccagni and Udinese’s Lorenzo Lucca.
