The Italian Super Cup will maintain the four-team format for next season, much to the dismay of Inter Milan.

The Nerazzurri have won the last three editions of the competitions under the guidance of Simone Inzaghi.

The Beneamata have a healthy lead in Serie A and are widely expected to clinch the Scudetto title at the end of the season. This would ensure their participation in the upcoming edition of the Supercoppa Italiana.

In this year’s edition, Inter prevailed in a four-team tournament that included the league champions, the Coppa Italia winners as well as their respective runners-up.

Nevertheless, the Nerazzurri were hoping to resurrect the traditional one-match format.

The Serie A leaders argued that next season’s schedule will be even grueler. They will also be taking part in the maiden expanded edition of the FIFA Club World Cup. The tournament will take place in the United States between June and July 2025.

However, Inter’s objections fell on deaf ears.

According to Calcio e Finanza via FcInter1908, the Lega Serie A decided to maintain the four-club Super Cup format for next season.

The semi-finals will ensue on January 3rd and 4th, while the final takes place on January 7th.

Similar to the current campaign, the tournament will prompt some changes in the Serie A schedule, postponing some fixtures to February.

On the other hand, the hosting nation remains uncertain at this point.

Lega Serie A has an agreement with Saudi Arabia to host four editions in six years.

The Gulf nation has already hosted the previous two editions. So they still get to organize two of the next four.

The source also mentions the United States as an alternative option.
