Liverpool are eyeing up a brilliant new addition to Arne Slot’s squad. The Italian press have now doubled down on the reports.

Arne Slot is flying this season but quite incredibly, there’s a sense of more to come from his Liverpool team. For one thing, he’s yet to add any of his own players.

The forward line is perhaps the most interesting in that regard. Slot has all of them playing well, despite the fact that all blew hot and cold last season.

Now, keeping that going across en entire campaign is another thing altogether but it’s easy to wonder what he could do with his perfect forward. Liverpool may want to find that out - if they have the cash for it.

And it could take a lot of cash and a lot of risk. The Reds are chasing trophies right now and the idea of plugging a ‘prime’ forward into the side is an exciting one.

But it would mean splashing more cash - as well as buying outside of the typical age range.

Liverpool like Marcus Thuram

Gazzetta dello Sport suggested earlier this week that Marcus Thuram was on the shortlist at Liverpool. Now Calciomercato is backing that up.

They claim Liverpool are very much looking to sign the Frenchman. His release clause sits at around £70m, though - not exactly a cheap one.

And it’s an interesting idea. Liverpool don’t buy players aged 27 unless it’s a Thiago-style bargain.

Thuram, though, would give Slot the kind of striker he may prefer up front - a very versatile, physical forward. And importantly, one slap bang in his prime years.

We do find it difficult to believe that Liverpool are preparing this one, purely because there’s zero precedence for it. At the same time, it’s unheard of for a new head coach to be heading towards silverware this quickly.

It’s very possible that Liverpool want to take advantage of that. The Italian press certainly believes so and January should be a notable one - for the moves the Reds make and the ones they don’t.
