Inter’s 3-1 victory over Udinese in Serie A yesterday was a welcome return to winning ways after they were held up by Sampdoria last time out.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the match at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza was positive for coach Simone Inzaghi for a number of reasons, including striker Romelu Lukaku’s first league goal since the opening day.

The Belgium international netted from the penalty spot in the first half for his first goal at the San Siro since 23 May 2021, prior to completing a €115 million move to Chelsea.

It was also the first time that Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez had netted in the same match since that fateful win over Udinese in May 2021, as Inter celebrated the Serie A title under former coach Antonio Conte.

Meanwhile, the victory gives the Nerazzurri a good platform to go into Wednesday’s Champions League Round of 16 match against Porto, with Inter hoping to make their mark in Europe this season.
