Inter’s Serie A clash with Roma could be a match with a real Italian theme, as it promises to be a showcase for more Azzurri players in the two teams’ starting elevens than any in Serie A this weekend besides Sampdoria’s match against Monza.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who predict that between the starting lineups for the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri, eight Italian players will feature.

As with all of the big European leagues, Serie A has become more cosmopolitan across the past few seasons, a trend which has in fact been developing for decades.

Particularly for the top sides like Inter and Roma, there is little room to be sentimental and focus on giving Italian players, as the pressure is always to simply win with the best players.

However, both of the pair have been getting the best out of a number of Italians in recent seasons, culminating in where they are where it is virtually taken for granted that at least two or three Italian players will always feature in their respective starting elevens.

For the Nerazzurri, the likes of Alessandro Bastoni, Federico Dimarco, and Nicolo Barella are anticipated to start, with Francesco Acerbi, Matteo Darmian, and Danilo D’Ambrosio also on the bench.

Meanwhile, the likes of Nicolo Zaniolo, Leonardo Spinazzola, Gianluca Mancini, Bryan Cristante, and Lorenzo Pellegrini should all feature in the Giallorossi’s starting eleven.
