Dutch referee Danny Makkelie has been praised for his handling of Inter’s Champions League clash with Sheriff Tiraspol, with the flow of the game highlighted as a bright spot to his display.

The referee was commended in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport for his performance and also considered to have gotten two key incidents in the box right.

Inter got their first win of this season’s Champions League group stage with a 3-1 victory over the Moldovan side, and the performance as an impressive one with the team passing the ball around well and the game played at a high tempo.

Part of the reason for this is that Makkelie managed the pace of the game well and did not let it get bogged down in excessive stoppages.

Meanwhile, there were two incidents in the penalty area between Arturo Vidal and Fernando Costanza, and Nicolo Barella and Danilo Arboleda, both of which Makkelie is adjudged to have gotten right.
