Striker Romelu Lukaku, wingback Denzel Dumfries, and forward Joaquin Correa look to have been Inter’s three most disappointing performers over the first half of the season.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who argue that the trio are the players who most need to pick up their form as the team heads into the second half of the campaign.

Lukaku returned to Inter on loan from Chelsea to much fanfare during the summer, but so far injuries have greatly restricted the Belgian’s impact, who has looked a shadow of his former self even when he has been fit enough to play.

Meanwhile, Dumfries has failed to really kick on from a positive first campaign in a Nerazzurri shirt.

The 26-year-old is currently out of the starting eleven for Matteo Darmian as fitness issues, erratic performances on a technical level, and continued defensive doubts have meant that despite his obvious quality he is not seen as a clear first-choice option.

Lastly, Correa has been unable to even perform at a level that has allowed him to be a reliable backup option for when the first-choice forwards are in need of some time on the bench to rest up.

If these three players can turn things around over the second half of the season, their undoubted quality could mean that Inter have the extra resources to finish the campaign more positively than they have started it.

However, the trio’s stalling form over the first part of the season provides a big clue as to why the team have not shone on a consistent basis so far, in the view of Tuttosport.
