Inter feel that the VAR in Serie A is not applied consistently enough after a late penalty was awarded to Juventus in the head-to-head clash at the San Siro on Sunday.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who highlight three incidents when the VAR was not used even though it arguably would have been more apt than when it was called upon during Sunday’s match.

Firstly, when the Nerazzurri faced Hellas Verona earlier in the season a challenge by Verona midfielder Martin Hongla on Lautaro Martinez looked to potentially be a foul, but the official waved play on and nothing came of it even after a VAR review.

Secondly, in the kickoff immediately before the Derby d’Italia on Sunday, Napoli midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa looked to have been taken down by Roma defender Matias Vina in the area but, once again, VAR did not intervene to award a penalty for a potential foul in the area.

And lastly, the Corriere brings up the memory of the late penalty awarded to the Bianconeri in their 3-2 win over Inter towards the end of last season.

In this instance, no VAR was needed to award a spot kick as the official saw the contact between Ivan Perisic and Juan Cuadrado in the area as a foul.

However, given the way that the incident appeared on replays as though Cuadrado was the one running into Perisic with no foul by the Croatian Inter wing-back, it was strange not to see VAR intervene.

Based on these and other incidents, the Nerazzurri will feel hard done by to have had a significant VAR intervention go against them when, more often than not, VAR is not used in similar situations.
