Ahead of tomorrow night’s Champions League group stage match versus Borussia Monchengladbach, Italian daily newspaper Tuttosport have highlighted the recent precedents between Inter and tomorrow’s referee Danny Makkelie.

In the reverse fixture between the two sides at the start of the group stage, Makkelie was in charge of VAR and he gave Jonas Hofmann’s goal the all clear after examination despite the touch made by Alassane Plea in the build-up which led to doubts over whether Hofmann was onside or offside.

Makkelie was meanwhile the referee of last season’s Europa League final between Inter and Sevilla. In that match, Makkelie failed to award Inter a penalty after a Nicolo Barella shot hit the hand of Diego Carlos and he also booked Inter manager Antonio Conte despite him being provoked by Sevilla midfielder Ever Banega.

The report goes on to add that Inter have been left disappointed with the officiating in many of their UEFA Champions League group stage this term.

Against Shakhtar Donetsk Inter were denied a penalty when Romelu Lukaku was hauled to the ground whilst there were several questionable decisions made in each of the matches with Real Madrid.
