Two of Inter’s key men will square off in a do-or-die World Cup group stage match this evening, and the moods could hardly be more contrasting around the pair.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who highlight the contrasting fortunes of Inter striker Romelu Lukaku and midfielder Marcelo Brozovic ahead of the “Inter derby” between Belgium and Croatia.

Belgium’s loss to Morocco over the weekend means that they will need at the very least a point out of this evening’s match against Croatia, and possibly a win, in order to progress to the round of sixteen in Qatar.

Meanwhile, for Croatia, Sunday’s win over Canada puts them in a stronger position to reach the knockouts, although they too will want a result to make absolutely sure.

Inter striker Lukaku went into the tournament as one of Belgium’s key men, but so far has made only a cameo appearance off the bench, as he was helpless to prevent the Red Devils’ loss to Morocco on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Brozovic started the tournament with injury and fitness concerns like his Inter teammate.

However, the Nerazzurri midfielder has really played his way into form, looking his usual self to dictate the tempo in midfield as the Croats cruised to a 4-1 win over Canada.

Now, the pair will meet in a match that could essentially be a direct playoff to reach the round of sixteen, and as things stand, their vantages will be very different.
