Inter defender Milan Skriniar had rejected a move to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2020.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908, who note that the Slovakian made clear that he wanted to stay at Inter despite a move to Spurs looking like a real possibility at the time.

Skriniar endured perhaps his most difficult spell in an Inter shirt during the 2019-20 season.

The former Sampdoria had not immediately made the adjustment to Antonio Conte’s back-three defensive system in the coach’s first campaign in charge.

In the 2020 Europa League final, Skriniar was an unused substitute as it was Diego Godin who started the match on the right side of the backline alongside Stefan de Vrij and Alessandro Bastoni.

Accordingly, there were doubts about Skriniar’s future in Milan.

Spurs made Skriniar a target during that summer’s transfer window.

However, from the player’s perspective, his priority was still to stay in Milan, and he decided to turn down a move.
