Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana’s departure from the Cameroonian national team at the World Cup and suspension by the Cameroonian FA were precipitated by a disagreement with coach Rigobert Song that had been ongoing for several days.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who break down the dispute leading up to Onana’s exclusion from the squad for yesterday’s match and eventual suspension.

In the preparations for yesterday’s match against Serbia, the atmosphere within the Cameroonian squad was conditioned by the disappointing loss to Switzerland in the team’s group stage opener.

During training, Cameroon coach Song reproached Onana for playing with his feet too much, telling him “This isn’t Ajax!”

The Nerazzurri keeper dug in his heels on his style of play, and told the coach that he is not the problem in the team, and that if the coach was not happy with his style he could select a different goalkeeper.

The relations between the pair broke down, whilst Cameroonian FA President Samuel Eto’o President sided with Song, so Onana was suspended yesterday to deal with the conflict.
