Referee Davide Massa got a number of decisions wrong and never really had control of the match in yesterday’s goalless draw between Inter and Atalanta in Serie A, according to Italian media.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport argued that the official should have spotted a number of fouls throughout the match but didn’t.

Atalanta had two penalty appeals turned down, and in both cases Massa felt that whatever contact there was was not enough to award a spot kick, which looked to have been the correct decisions.

However, in the first half of the match in particular Massa let play go on a number of occasions after what looked to have been clear fouls took place.

A good chance for Inter forward Alexis Sanchez came after what should have been given as an obvious foul on Atalanta striker Luis Muriel, while Massa also missed a yellow card offense by Remo Freuler on Nicolo Barella.
