Inter put on a more impressive display in their 1-0 win over Napoli in Serie A yesterday evening than they had done against Barcelona in the Champions League.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, via FCInterNews, who argued that the Nerazzurri’s performance to beat the Partenopei has surpassed that which saw them triumph over the Blaugranas as their best of the season.

Going into their match against Napoli yesterday, Inter could look back at their 1-0 win over Barcelona at the San Siro as their standout match of the season, when considering the quality of their opposition.

The Nerazzurri had yet to play at that level against a direct rival in Serie A, however.

This changed against Napoli, as Inter were very good value for three points against the league leaders, who tasted defeat for the first time this season in the league.

Whilst Inter had put in a stout defensive performance to beat Barcelona, they did more than this against Napoli.

Against Luciano Spalletti’s side who have been one of the standout teams in Europe, Inter didn’t just defend well to preserve their clean sheet, but also pressed higher up the pitch than they had done against Barcelona.

Inter were aggressive, proactive, and went fully toe-to-toe with a team who had looked nearly invincible prior to yesterday evening, and so for the Corriere della Sera, even more impressive than they had been against Barcelona.
