Italian journalist Sandro Sabatini sees Inter Milan as the frontrunners in a ruthlessly contested UEFA Champions League title race.
During his recent interview with Calcio Selvaggio via FCInter1908, Sabatini highlighted the Nerazzurri as genuine candidates to secure continental glory.
Though Simone Inzaghi’s lads blew hot and cold in the early Serie A season, they’ve been outstanding in Europe.
To put it in perspective, only Liverpool boast a better point haul than Inter’s 13 after the opening five rounds.
Furthermore, the Italian heavyweights remain the only Champions League team to keep a clean sheet in every game this term.
Indeed, the Nerazzurri kept Arsenal, Manchester City, and RB Leipzig, among others, at bay.
Therefore, it’s only natural to assume Inter’s chances of repeating the 2010 triumph are high.
With three games left in the newly formatted league phase, Inter are in good shape to secure automatic knockout qualification.
Taking three points at Bayer Leverkusen next time out would likely be a season-defining milestone.
Avoiding playoffs would be a massive feat, considering it’d reduce the volume of Inter’s fixtures in early 2025.
Moreover, the Nerazzurri can draw heart from other European titans’ rough patches.
Reigning champions Real Madrid have already suffered three Champions League defeats.
Meanwhile, Manchester City’s noticeable fall from grace has been epic.
Sabatini believes Inzaghi’s team can take advantage of these new circumstances to return to the throne.
“Inter will win the Champions League,” Sabatini was blunt. “Fan? I’m not sympathetic to anything.
“I think Inter can win the Champions League this season if injuries permit it, of course.
“How many times in life do you find Manchester City, PSG, and Real Madrid in this situation?
“Who will Inter be facing in the Champions League final? Inter-Bayern, like in Madrid in 2010, mark my words,” Sabatini concluded.
