Italian journalist Stefano De Grandis believes that now that midfielder Marcelo Brozovic is back available, Inter will have a tactical solution to play with “two registe.”

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInter1908, De Grandis noted that the Croat can play alongside Hakan Calhanoglu at the base of midfield, a similar setup to when Christian Eriksen had been at the club under Antonio Conte.

Brozovic has now been out for essentially five months for Inter, with only a few cameo appearances from the bench to his name during the period.

The Nerazzurri have not suffered from the 30-year-old’s absence as much as many may have expected, however.

This has been because of the fact that Calhanoglu has filled in so adeptly in the deepest midfield position.

Now with Brozovic back, it is likely that the Turk will return to more of a box-to-box role on the left of the midfield trio.

However, this does not mean that he cannot add a dimension to the Nerazzurri’s midfield dynamic that includes some of the way that he played as the deep-lying playmaker whilst Brozovic was out, regardless of where he is on the pitch.

De Grandis argued that “Now that Brozovic is back, he can play in a ‘double regista’ setup, he and Calhanoglu together can bring back memories of when Brozovic and Eriksen were both playing.”

“Now when the opponents try to put a marker on Brozovic to block him from getting involved in the game, there’s another player who can take the ball and start the possession up,” he noted.

“Now Inter have more ideas in possession, and will come out all the richer with Brozovic back,” he argued.
