Chelsea have been linked with many potential transfer targets in recent months, which is completely normal.

For Chelsea right now as well, in the situation they are in, we have been expecting to see many potential new signings linked, with the ambitious new owners looking to add to and improve the squad in all areas of the pitch.

One situation that is much talked about right now is midfielder Mason Mount’s contract situation. The England international has not yet reached a conclusion with the club over extending his deal, and his current contract ends in 2024.

Of course, this then sees fresh rumours of clubs being interested, and Chelsea making contingency plans.

The Telegraph last month claimed that Chelsea are ‘looking at’ the possibility of signing Lorenzo Pellegrini from Roma as a contingency plan if Mason Mount refuses to sign a new contract.

And according to Give Me Sport, Serie A journalist Carlo Garganese believes Pellegrini is ‘worthy’ of a club like Chelsea.

Garganese said: “Pellegrini, I think he would suit and fit the team, for sure. I think he’s a top player, he’s worthy of a top club like Chelsea.

“But the problem is with Pellegrini is he’s Roman born and bred, a Roma fan, has a huge association and connection with the club and the city.

“And we’ve seen in the past, this is a very Roman thing that Roma players, even world-class ones that could play for the best teams in the world, they don’t generally leave Roma.

“They’re more connected with that club and maybe any other team in Italy, or anywhere really. (Francesco) Totti we saw spent his whole career there, (Daniele) De Rossi, basically his whole career until he had a swansong.

“Pellegrini is from the exact the same mould as Totti and De Rossi, and he only recently signed a new contract as well. It will be difficult to take him away from Roma, that’s always a problem with these Roman-bred players.”
