Italian journalist Paolo Condo believes that Inter approached the summer transfer market in the right way by acting methodically after the departures of Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, he gave the view that the Nerazzurri’s transfer business in the summer produced a team which is functional even in the absence of two of their standout performers from last season.

The sales of Hakimi and Lukaku were a signal to many observers that Inter would not be able to maintain their level from last season, with the pair virtually irreplaceable given the qualities which they showed on the way to a Scudetto triumph.

However, the club did not scramble to find an inferior replacement for either player, but rather brought in players who fit the right profiles which were missing from the squad for the tactical approach of head coach Simone Inzaghi, and they now look to be reaping the benefits.

“Very good of Marotta and Ausilio not to panic after the departures of Lukaku and Hakimim,” Condo stated. “They have given Inzaghi the players he needed.”

He went on, “Inzaghi then managed to transform the soul of a dispirited team, which from becoming Italian Champions lost two key players. Now Inter are still hungry.”

He also singled out Nerazzurri midfielder Niccolo Barella for praise, stating that “Barella always convinces me, even in moments when Inter are suffering, he manages to keep the team together.”
