Italian Journalist Michele Criscitiello: “Inter Suffered Because Of The International Break”

Italian journalist Michele Criscitiello believes that Inter had trouble in their Serie A clash with Lazio over the weekend due to the return from the international break.

Writing in his column for TuttoMercatoWeb, Criscitiello gave the view that the Nerazzurri were not at their best thanks to the absences or fatigue of key players coming back from the break.

Inter are in a busy period of fixtures, with the clash with Lazio only a few days prior to this evening’s crucial Champions League match against Sheriff Tiraspol and the subsequent match against Juventus on the weekend kicking off a packed period.

This was not helped by the fact that the late-returning strikers Lautaro Martinez and Joaquin Correa were not deemed ready to start the match against Sheriff due to their exertions with the Argentine national team.

As Criscitiello points out, this is frequently a problem for teams with many international players, but it was clear to see with the Nerazzurri on Saturday.

“Inter, without Lautaro and with the Champions League knocking on the door, suffered in their trip to Rome like many others,” he writes, “but it is obvious that if we find ourselves in such a busy schedule, the big clubs will always risk losing points close to the international breaks.”
