Italian Journalist Mario Sconcerti: “Inter Held Atalanta At Arm’s Length But Neither Side Gained A Decisive Advantage” | OneFootball

Italian journalist Mario Sconcerti feels that Inter and Atalanta somewhat cancelled each other out in their goalless draw in Serie A yesterday evening.

Writing in his column in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, Sconcerti emphasized that the Nerazzurri put in a controlled performance to restrict La Dei but that neither side really outclassed the other at any point in the match.

The Nerazzurri will have went into yesterday’s match knowing that they would be coming up against one of their most formidable challenges of the season away to a strong Atalanta team.

The match never quite took off in the way that the frenetic 2-2 draw between the same opponents at the San Siro in September, but both teams showed their organization and tactical quality throughout.

Inter had considerably more of the ball and did not look rattled by La Dei’s pressure, something which Sconcerti noted.

“Inter didn’t fall into Gasperini’s usual traps,” he writes, “keeping Atalanta at arm’s length. It was a good match but it never quite took off.”

“They both played to win both but were both constantly careful to make sure to get out unscathed,” he goes on. “In two matches played Inter and Atalanta have never gotten the better of each other.”

He considers that “Inter have come closer to winning but without the decisive clinical edge. This result is a good one for both teams but will probably bring Milan closer to Inter while Juve are breathing down the neck of Atalanta.”
