Italian Journalist Marco Bucciantini: “Inter Didn’t Win 91 Points With Only Romelu Lukaku & Achraf Hakimi”

Italian journalist Marco Bucciatini has highlighted the fact that Inter have still retained much of the core of last season’s Scudetto-winning team despite the painful sales of Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku over the summer.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Bucciatini gave the view that midfielder Marcelo Brozovic is still the beating heart of this Nerazzurri team, and that with the number of young and high-quality players in the squad Inter can look to replicate last season’s success.

Inter won their first Scudetto in eleven seasons last campaign and did so in emphatic fashion, but the departure of talismanic head coach Antonio Conte followed by the major sales of Hakimi and Lukaku undoubtedly saw them lose key contributors.

However, former Lazio boss Simone Inzaghi has arrived as Conte’s replacement, and in addition to new signings coming in, most of the important players from last season are still at the club, and Bucciatini believes that they even have room to grow and improve.

“When you win a championship with 91 points, it is a sign,” he said, “it means that you have a strong team. They didn’t pick up 91 points with Hakimi and Lukaku, but with the team they built.”

He enumerated, “Lautaro, Barella, Skriniar, de Vrij, are entering the best period of their career. They can improve. Lautaro and Barella, they are showing it. ‘Lukaku took us higher, we must do more’: this is what they say now. Brozovic is the truly irreplaceable player for this Inter.”
