As talks of a sale of the club by owners Suning intensify, Italian journalist Marco Bellinazzo claims that Inter will not be left in the perilous position that AC Milan were following the sale by Yonghong Li.

Speaking on Gianluca Rossi’s Youtube channel earlier today, Il Sore 24 Ore journalist Bellinazzo sought to stress that comparisons between Inter’s Chinese President Steven Zhang and compatriot Li, who led Milan from 2016 to 2018 are unfair.

Zhang and Suning are believed to be in negotiations with London-based equity fund BC Partners over selling a majority stake in Inter after entering a period of exclusivity.

“During this particular moment in time there are many investment funds looking to enter football, whilst the situation in China means many owners are being discouraged from being involved in foreign football,” Bellinazzo said of Zhang.

“It is important for Inter fans to know that Suning did not look to actively sell Inter but instead were approached with offers and must take directives from Beijing.”

After Li defaulted on debts whilst in control of Milan, eventually leading to the sale of the club to Elliot Management, comparisons have been drawn with Suning but Bellinazzo insisted these were wide of the mark.

“There is the potential for BC Partners to begin the takeover process with a loan in the same way Elliot did, but this is far as the comparisons between Suning and Li go.

“Suning is a company that has a turnover of €60 billion per year and is a global giant.”

Suning have owned a majority stake in Inter since June 2016 after purchasing the club from Erick Thohir.
